Toru Kubota 

Senior Investment Consultant, Towers Watson

 

Toru Kubota is a senior investment consultant at Towers Watson in Tokyo and is primarily responsible for researching and monitoring investment managers in Japan.  His research focus includes strategies and managers in hedge funds and other alternative investments.  He is also involved in client relationships with regard to manager selection and monitoring with some of the major Japanese pension funds.

 

Toru re-joined Towers Watson in November 2010 as a member of investment consulting practice. Prior to re-joining Towers Watson, he was an executive director at Platinum Grove Asset Management Japan, a Japanese affiliate of a fixed income arbitrage manager in U.S., where he was responsible for client reporting and relationships with Japanese institutional investors. He was also responsible for monitoring affiliated external hedge funds including an Asian macro fund, a credit long short fund and a multi-strategy equity fund.

Before joining Platinum Grove Asset Management Japan, Toru was an investment consultant at legacy Watson Wyatt where he provided consulting services on investment manager structure, manager evaluation and monitoring to Japanese pension funds and financial institutions.

 

Toru earned a B.A. in Economics from Keio University and an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.  He is a CFA and CAIA charterholder.
