Samarn Trongwaranon    

Senior Director, Government Pension fund, Thailand

 

Samarn is a Senior Director of Government Pension Fund, Thailand, a defined contribution pension fund managing over USD19 bn. He is also the head of Thai equity investment division, a member of both strategic asset allocation and tactical asset allocation committee. He has been with Government Pension Fund, Thailand since 2005. 

 

Prior to joining Government Pension Fund, Thailand, Samarn was the Chief Investment Officer of BoA Asset Management Co., Ltd. (Member of ABN AMRO bank). He was also a member of Product Committee and Executive Committee overseeing the firm’s direction in terms of new product development and strategic direction.  BoA Asset Management Co., Ltd. (Member of ABN AMRO bank) was able to launch the first REIT and the first Capital Protection Fund for Thai public mutual fund investment community.

 

Samarn began his investment career in 1994 with Siam Commercial Bank Asset Management Co., Ltd.  as an equity investment team member. In 1997 He moved to BoA Asset Management Co., Ltd. (Member of ABN AMRO bank) as an equity fund manager and promoted to be the Head of equity fund division in 1999. In 2003, he and his team received 1st ranked flexible fund award from the Post/Lipper. He graduated from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1993 with MBA in Finance.
