Austan Goolsbee

26th Chairman, Council of Economic Advisers to President Barack Obama

 

Austan Goolsbee is a professor at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and one of the world’s leading experts on business, government and the economy. Goolsbee also serves as a Strategic Partner and Head of the Economic Intelligence Practice for 32 Advisors, a global consulting and advisory firm providing strategic intelligence to senior executives on a broad spectrum of issues.

 

He currently serves as a member of the Economic Advisory Panel to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and an economics consultant for ABC news.

 

Goolsbee most recently served as chairman of President Barack Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers and a member of the Cabinet as well as the chief economist for the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board (chaired by Paul Volcker). Prior to the Obama administration, he served as a member of the Panel of Economic Advisers to the Congressional Budget Office.

 

Goolsbee is a former Fulbright Scholar and Alfred P. Sloan Fellow. In 2005, he was selected as one of The Financial Times’ six “Gurus of the Future”. He writes regularly for the Wall Street Journal and in 2006 was awarded the Peter Lisagor Award for Exemplary Journalism.

 

Goolsbee earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from Yale University and his Ph.D in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
