Matthew Newell
Associate General Counsel, Managed Funds Association
Matthew Newell is Associate General Counsel at Managed Funds Association, where he is responsible for regulatory and legislative developments affecting the alternative investment industry. MFA represents the global alternative investment industry by advocating for sound industry practices and public policies that foster efficient, transparent, and fair capital markets. Prior to joining MFA in 2008, Matt worked at Willkie Farr & Gallagher and Shearman & Sterling in Washington, DC, where he represented investment advisers including hedge fund and private equity fund managers. At MFA, he focuses in particular on SEC regulation of hedge fund managers, including registration, reporting, examinations, and implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act and the JOBS Act. Matt graduated with a B.S. in Economics from Duke University in 2001, and earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2004.
