John Skjervem

Chief Investment Officer, Oregon State Treasury (OST)

 

John Skjervem serves as Chief Investment Officer for the Oregon State Treasury (OST).  In that role he oversees an investment team that manages a financial and real asset portfolio valued at $79 billion as of December 31, 2012 including the state’s $61 billion Oregon Public Employees Retirement Fund.

 

Prior to his appointment at OST, John served in a variety of capacities for Northern Trust over a 21-year tenure including Chief Investment Officer for the firm’s $170 billion Personal Financial Services division.  John started his career as an associate economist for consultants Natelson Levander Whitney, and also worked as a public finance specialist for investment bankers Ehrlich Bober & Co.

 

He earned an M.B.A. with a focus on finance and statistics from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago, and received a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of California at Santa Barbara.  He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, former director of the CFA Society of Chicago, and an honorary board member for the St. Francis Foundation in Santa Barbara, CA.

 

The Oregon State Treasury protects public assets and saves Oregonians money through its investment, banking and debt management functions. State investment policies are overseen by the Oregon Investment Council. The State Treasury also promotes public outreach and education to help Oregonians learn strategies to save money, invest for college and make smart financial choices.
