Charles Allard, Jr.

Chair, Winton Capital Asia

 

Charles Allard is Chairman of Winton Capital Asia. He heads up Winton's Hong Kong office and is responsible for business development in the Far East and Australasia.

 

Charles was born in California. His father's business brought him to Asia so he spent his early years in Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong. He was educated in the USA, majored in Asian Studies at Tulane University in New Orleans before pursuing graduate studies in Law and History at Keio Gijuku University in Tokyo. He is a fluent Japanese speaker who has lived and worked in Japan for over a decade.

 

Charles's first job in Tokyo was underwriting equity securities for Kangyo Kakumaru Securities. He spent five years with Chase Manhattan as Vice-President Asia Pacific Division in Tokyo and London selling derivative products to institutional clients. In 1999 he returned to Japan working for the investment bank Bear Stearns as Managing Director, Equity Derivatives. Charles is also the author of Insurance Risk Securitisation: a Guide for Issuers and Investors published by Euromoney Institutional Investor in 1999 and 2001 and a registered investment advisor in the UK, Japan, and Hong Kong.

 

He joined Winton in 2006 to spearhead the company's business development in Japan, which is now Winton's second largest national market. He was promoted to Head of Japan and in 2009 to Head of Asia. In August 2012 Charles moved to Hong Kong, with his family, to run Winton Capital Asia.
