Scott Stelzer

Head of Commercial Mortgage Securities and Trading & Senior Managing Director, Cerberus Capital Management

 

Scott Stelzer joined Cerberus in 2008 to construct a long and short CMBS investment strategy that utilizes Cerberus' established real estate investment team for key fundamental credit research which supports risk-adjusted investment decisions across CMBS market segments. Currently, Mr. Stelzer manages over $900 million in long and short cash and synthetic CMBS investments for the Cerberus platform, including over $400 million for dedicated CMBS funds in which Mr. Stelzer is the Portfolio Manager.

 

In October 2013, Cerberus launched a single-strategy CMBS fund which harnesses its unique combination of real estate and capital structure expertise to capture price inefficiencies in CRE and CMBS properties, loans, securities, and capital markets: Cerberus CMBS Opportunities Fund. Mr. Stelzer is the Portfolio Manager.

 

Mr. Stelzer has more than 20 years of experience in the CRE and CMBS industry. Prior to joining Cerberus, Mr. Stelzer was a Managing Director in the Global Proprietary Credit Group at Morgan Stanley, where he managed CMBS and all other commercial real estate securities and loan trading activities. In 2002, Mr. Stelzer became the Head of CMBS trading in the Securitized Products Group at Morgan Stanley, where he oversaw all proprietary and flow trading of cash and synthetic CMBS, CRE CDOs, Fannie Mae DUS, and GNMA project loans. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley in 1998, Mr. Stelzer traded CMBS at Salomon Smith Barney. Mr. Stelzer started his career in 1992 as an Acquisitions Associate at JMB Real Estate Investment Group. Mr. Stelzer is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and received an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 1996.
